Events took place at Ashington Community Woodland, Peoples Park, Paddock Wood and the Hirst area, supported by volunteers and community groups, including Friends of Ashington Community Woods, YMCA Northumberland, Reiverdale Scout Group and Heart of the Hirst Tenant and Residents Association.

Northumberland County Council and Northumbria Police also supported the activities, as well as local councillors Jim Lang and Ken Parry.

The picks were part of the town council’s ongoing efforts to target and tackle litter. It has a programme of renewing and placing new litter bins, as well as funding an environmental officer to target fly-tipping, dog fouling and litter louts.

The council wants to thank all those that supported the litter-picks, particularly the Reiverdale Scout Group who soldiered on, despite the heavy rain in Paddock Wood, North Seaton.
