Man, 87, dies after collision with car

A pedestrian has died after a collision with a car in Blyth town centre at the weekend.

Officers at Northumbria Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident.

An 87-year-old man was struck by a Citroen C4 on Waterloo Road – the B1328 – in Blyth at 5.15pm on Saturday, December 20.

The incident happened near to the Market Place area.

The pedestrian, Thomas Westwater Paterson, from Blyth, was taken to hospital where he died as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Enquiries are ongoing into the collision and officers are hoping any Christmas shoppers out in the town at the time might have witnessed what happened.
