Man arrested after grabbing teenage girls near school

A man who was believed to have a knife, and grabbed two teenage girls in Cramlington on Monday has been arrested.

The two girls, aged 14 and 16, who were walking on the cycle track which runs past Shanklea Primary School in the town between 7.30pm and 7.45pm on Monday, were approached by a man who walked alongside them for a short while before grabbing one of them.

A struggle took place and the girls managed to attract the attention of passers-by.

The offender then fled in the direction of Nairn Road.

The girls were unharmed but left very shaken by the incident and it is believed that the man may have been in possession of a knife.

A 19-year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and bailed pending further enquiries.
