A cyclist is preparing to saddle up for an epic 24-hour charity ride.
Matt Cairns, from Seaton Delaval, is teaming up with Adam Marshall, of Low Fell, Gateshead, to race against the clock on Saturday.
The pair are looking to complete the 315-mile ride from Newcastle to London in just 24 hours.
It is the latest in a series of challenges the two have undertaken to raise money and awareness for children’s charity Heel & Toe, which provides therapy to children with cerebralpalsy and other physical disabilities across the north east. In 2014, Adam and Matt rode 2,100 miles from the charity’s front door to the Olympic ruins in Greece over just 20 days.
Matt said: “It’s going to be difficult, but it’ll all be worth it for Heel& Toe and the amazing work they do for the inspiring kids they support.”
Adam added: “I’ve never ridden more than 210 miles in one go before so this will be new ground for me.
“But when you get tired you remember it’s just riding a bike, when compared to the challenges the children and families helped by the brilliant Heel & Toe face every day, pedalling is nothing.”
