Meagan's delight at winning award
A young woman from Ashington has won a regional award for her work achievements.
Meagan Thompson picked up the Talent Match North East’s (TMNE) Progression Award in recognition of overcoming difficult personal circumstances to find and hold down a job at Subway in Morpeth.
The 22-year-old was joined by Newcastle Eagles coach Fab Flournoy and Heart Radio breakfast presenter Justin Lockwood at the awards.
TMNE takes an innovative approach to tackling long-term youth unemployment, helping hundreds of 18 to 24-year-olds to transform their lives.
Meagan was presented with the award by Sean Duffy, chief executive of the Wise Group.
He said: “The north east has one of the highest proportions in the UK of young people who are not in education, employment or training, and services like Talent Match are crucial to addressing youth unemployment across the region.
“It’s the young people themselves though who do the really hard work, often overcoming tremendous odds to do so, and it’s important to take time to recognise and celebrate their incredible achievements.”
After being unemployed for 30 months Meagan joined Talent Match through Blyth-based charity Tomorrow’s People, hoping to tackle her depression and anxieties around finding work.
She made significant lifestyle changes, grew in confidence and landed the job.
