The institution service of Anthony by the Bishop of Berwick, the Rt Rev Mark Tanner, and induction by the Archdeacon of Lindisfarne, the Ven Peter Robinson, was held in St Bartholomew’s Church, Newbiggin.

Anthony, 31, was ordained deacon in 2015, then made priest a year later.

He said: “I feel privileged and the luckiest priest in England to be asked to come to Newbiggin as vicar.

“I’m excited to be here for the communities which live in Newbiggin and I have got a real heart for this place. I leapt at the chance.

“In 2013, I was at St Bartholomew’s on placement and, even back then, had a sense I would like to be a parish priest in Newbiggin.”
