An annual football match in memory of a Blyth soldier killed in Afghanistan is taking place this weekend.
Guardsman Michael Sweeney was killed while on patrol in 2010.
Now family and friends are planning the sixth annual memorial match in his memory on Saturday.
The Coldstream Guards will face the Blyth Misfits at Croft Park, home of the Blyth Spartans. There will also be an U12 game of football; a match for Sgt John Amer, a Coldstream Guard from Sunderland; Zorb football; stalls offering crafts; farmers’ market; refreshments; DJs; and music.
The clubhouse will be open from 11am, with gates opening at 9.30am.
Tickets cost £3 for adults, £1.50 for Under 16s and Under fives are free.
Later that evening, there is a concert by the Fusiliers Band at St Mary’s Church, in Blyth, starting at 7pm.
Tickets are £8 and available via firstname.lastname@example.org
