The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of wind for Northumberland for this afternoon with gusts of '50-60 mph'.
The forecasting body updated its warning for Northumberland this morning which may see gales 'become severe in exposed areas during Wednesday afternoon and evening. Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely over coasts and more exposed inland areas'.
"The winds will veer westerly in the evening before easing from the west in the early hours of Thursday. Heavy, blustery showers or some longer spells of rain could also lead to some surface water flooding on the roads."
The body has also warned of 'difficult driving conditions and the risk of some minor travel disruption on roads and to ferries'.
The chief forecaster for the body said that the wind is part of 'an Atlantic depression' which is to move east today.
