Midwives from the region have had a tour of the birthing centre at the new Northumbria Hospital in Cramlington.

Set to open its doors to the public next month, mums-to-be from across Northumberland and North Tyneside will soon benefit from the state-of-the-art facility which will offer women and their partners the ultimate choice when it comes to deciding where to give birth.

Midwives at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have had their first glimpse of the contemporary Birthing Centre @ Northumbria, which will include 14 en-suite delivery rooms, two en-suite birthing pool rooms, 20 individual en-suite bedrooms, each with its own TV and reclining chair for partners to stay overnight.

All of the delivery rooms will have access to restaurant facilities open 24/7 for meals and snacks.

Head of Midwifery Janice McNichol said: “We are all very excited about what our new Birthing Centre.”
