More police help tackle any issues

Extra police patrols were out in force over the bank holiday weekend.

Additional officers were on patrol throughout the county last weekend to ensure a range of events taking place ran smoothly.

And extra officers were also in the county’s towns over the bank holiday weekend to offer reassurance and deal with any trouble before it got out of hand.

Leading up to the weekend, police were reminding people to enjoy themselves safely.

Those wanting to enjoy a drink were reminded to drink sensibly and not leave themselves vulnerable to becoming involved in crime, or a victim of crime, as a result of drinking too much alcohol.

Superintendent Gillian Mitchell, of Northumberland Area Command, said: “We know the bank holiday weekend is a popular weekend for people to be out and about enjoying the many attractions and events taking place.

“As people make the most of the extra day, we see more people coming into the county’s towns to enjoy a drink.

“The consequences of too much alcohol are far reaching and our priority was making sure people remain safe and not become vulnerable to becoming involved in crime, or being a victim of crime, by having too much too drink.

“We also want people to look after their personal property.”
