More than 100 new school places

A total of 115 new school places are being created in five schools in south-east Northumberland to meet the increasing pupil population.

The admission numbers at two schools in Blyth, one in New Hartley and another in Seaton Delaval will go up for the start of the next academic year in September, after the increases were approved by Northumberland County Council’s cabinet at its meeting on Tuesday.

Another Blyth school will see a rise in September 2019.

The admission number at Newsham Primary School will also rise from 60 to 90, but from next September.

Elsewhere, New Hartley First School will see a small increase of four, from 26 to 30, while at Whytrig Middle School, in Seaton Delaval, will see the biggest expansion – an increase from 54 to 90.
