Morpeth Town's hopes of Wembley appearance are finely balanced
Morpeth Town's dream of appearing at Wembley remain finely balanced after a draw today (Saturday).
The Highwaymen head back from Essex looking to build on a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their FA Vase semi final against Bowers and Pitsea.
They will now look to win the second leg at Craik Park on Saturday, March 19.
In front of a crowd of 426, goals from Sean Taylor and Michael Chilton put Morpeth in a strong position at half time.
Morpeth opened the scoring against the run of play with Taylor lobbing home from 40-yards, before Chilton doubled the advantage, reacting quickest to fire home after Taylor’s effort had been saved.
Bowers created more chances in the second half, and had a penalty appeal waved away by the referee before they pulled one back through Lewis Manor.
And they equalised in the 89th minute through Alfie Hilton.
Morpeth are now just one game from a potential visit to Wembley in May, where they would face the winners of the Hereford and Salisbury game.
Morpeth team: Dryden, Forster, Novak, Sayer, Swailes, Hall, Taylor, Graydon (c), McAndrew, Chilton, Bell. Substitutes: Fry, Pearson, Halambiec, Hiftle, Harrison.
Morpeth will be looking to maintain the Northern League’s grasp on the Vase with previous winners including North Shields and Whitley Bay.
