A local MP has paid tribute to all those who lost their lives or survived the Holocaust, as part of the run-up to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the camp.
Next Tuesday, January 27, will mark the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau, where more than one million victims died at the site of the largest mass murder in history.
To mark the occasion Mr Lavery was one of the MPs who signed a Holocaust Education Trust’s Book of Commitment as part of commemorative events being organised across the country.
“Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity to remember the victims and survivors of those death camps and to make sure that they are never forgotten,” he said.
“It was an honour for me to sign the Book of Commitment.”
