Musician hopes to be a cruise Edd-liner
A New Hartley musician has been chosen as the soloist to appear on a new cruise liner.
Edd Carr, a former pupil at Astley High School, currently works for Carnival Cruise Line as an acoustic soloist, working from America.
Now he has been chosen to perform on the company’s new ship the Carnival Vista, the latest addition to the fleet.
Edd said: “This is a huge company and they only chose me, I’m really pleased with this achievement.”
Edd has been playing the guitar since he was eight when he started copying his brother, which started his love affair with music.
He began working with Carnival Cruise Lines in 2011, but prior to that he attended Newcastle College for five years to achieve a First class BMus in jazz performance, with a minor study of composition and arranging. This was supplemented with a higher education teaching certificate in 2010.
Edd has taught privately, as well as in schools and colleges. He was the guitar instructor for Newcastle College’s HND and ensemble leader for the Sage Gateshead’s BMus Jazz degree.
He started as a show band guitarist on cruise liners, before moving on to become an acoustic soloist.
