Residents across the county are set to benefit from a new and improved community transport scheme.
Northumberland County Council has supported the Getabout voluntary car initiative for the last six years – a service that provides door-to-door transport for people with mobility problems or without access to public transport.
Responding to calls to help more people and expand the service more widely, it invited tenders from all organisations interested in running it and Adapt (North East) was selected.
It will operate in partnership with Community Action Northumberland, parish and town councils and other agencies in the county.
Coun Allan Hepple, cabinet member responsible for sustainable transport, said: “This new service aims to expand and build on the existing Getabout Northumberland scheme.”
For more information about the new scheme, which starts next month, call Adapt (North East) on 01434 600599.
