New manager for community hub’s life centre

A one-stop community hub has appointed a new centre manager.

Kath Falcus has been working as a part time volunteer for the last two years at Ashington Life Centre, and funding has now been secured to enable her to continue to manage and develop the centre and its facilities on a full time basis.

Ashington Life Centre in the old Police Station on Station Road, is a one-stop bub offering a wealth of services, support and resources to the local community.

Kath said: “In addition to the daily Community Cafe where hot drinks and traditional home made broth are served free all day, we also provide very low cost, traditional meals such as shepherd’s pie, mince and dumplings etc every Friday.

“This service will be expanding to include lunch clubs during the week.”

The centre also operates an emergency food bank, community shop selling very low cost clothes, toys and household items, homeless support, youth clubs, art therapy sessions and craft clubs, a market garden and a newly launched furniture scheme to support families and individuals receiving benefits.
