A NEW market day in Blyth has been hailed a success.
The market, being held every Wednesday from 8.30am and until 1.30pm in the town’s Market Place, attracted new traders selling a variety of goods, including hardware, confectionary, home crafts and bric-a-brac at its launch last week.
A car boot sale, however, proved to be the star attraction of the day.
Malcolm Hutchinson, Blyth’s town centre manager, said: “It caters for a different clientele.
“There were people there who had never been to Blyth before.
“There is the pull of the car boot sales.
“We are trying to promote it not as a normal market. This is a separate animal.
“The main idea is to bring more people into the town centre from afar, and it certainly seems to have done that.
“One of the business people said they had never seen the town centre looking so busy for years.”
Blyth’s other markets will take place as usual every Monday, Friday and Saturday.
