A new £1.3million development in Newbiggin has opened its doors.

Special guests were invited to the official opening by Arch of the mixed use development in Front Street.

The building features two retail units and the Town Council office on the ground floor, while on the upper floors there are eight two-bedroom apartments for rent by Arch Homes.

Three of the apartments have already been let while the ground floor retail units can provide either one larger retail unit or two smaller retail units.

Modern and accessible public toilets have also been included on the ground floor.

Coun Richard Wearmouth, chairman of Arch, was on site with Newbiggin county councillors and the town council to officially open the building and have a tour of the development.

He said: “This is a really positive development for Newbiggin and will be a great help for boosting the local economy and regeneration of this lovely seaside town.

“The new local amenities are an excellent addition for enhancing the tourism aspect of the town which is continuing to grow.”

Newbiggin county councillor, Liz Simpson, said: “The addition of the new local amenities and apartments will be welcomed by Newbiggin residents and tourists.

“This new development is a fantastic asset to the local town’s regeneration.”
