A new plinth and stone tablet is being unveiled in a county village’s memorial park.
The work in New Hartley has been funded by Northumberland County Council and Seaton Valley Council, and outlines the tale of those who lost their lives in the colliery disaster.
The plinth will be officially ‘opened’ at a special ceremony on September 19, which will also see the unveiling of a new bench.
Russ Coleman, artist, and Rob Walton both responsible for the new addition also created the pathway through the park which records the names and ages of all those who died.
New Hartley Community Association chair, Clive Raper, said: “It’s great to have this plinth which tells the story of the disaster.”
