A county academy has welcomed a new principal director to lead its secondary campus.
The Northumberland Church of England Academy appointed Steve Gibson to lead the Josephine Butler Secondary in Ashington.
Mr Gibson comes from Newcastle Sixth Form College where he was both the principal of the college and an executive director on the board of NCG.
Mr Gibson said: “I have been impressed by the positive and welcoming atmosphere of the Academy and particularly the great attitude towards learning from the students and the commitment of staff in making this an exciting place where all students can learn and develop.
“We will continue to strive towards excellence in teaching and learning, with a strong emphasis on ensuring that only the highest standards are accepted.”
His arrival follows the departure of Peter Blackburn who has served as the Academy’s secondary principal director since it opened in 2009.
Academy executive director Andrew Day said: “Mr Gibson is a great addition to the Academy as we look to build upon the early successes of our Sixth Form and take the secondary phase towards being the very best it can be.”
