An old damaged lifebelt found by the Blyth Coastguard Rescue team has taken on a new lease of life as a piece of art.
Rather than disposing of the ring, Blyth’s station officer Dave Lucas contacted the Shore Art Club, which is based in the town’s Dave Stephens Centre to see if they would take on the challenge of decorating it showing how the Coastguard Service works.
Eileen Turner completed the art using acrylic paints.
Station officer Dave Lucas said: “We are absolutely delighted with the results,. We will be using it as a piece of artwork to decorate our station but also talking it with us when we do educational visits and public relations displays as it shows the resources that today’s Coastguard service have.”
