A service to help people who are living with dementia to pursue their favourite pastimes has been launched in Ashington.
Members of the Alzheimer’s Society team have started a new Befriending Service which covers south and central Northumberland – in and around Morpeth, Ashington, Bedlington and Blyth.
The service aims to help people with dementia to live life to the full after a diagnosis, and continue to get the most out of their hobbies.
Alzheimer’s Society services manager Jane Lamont, who is based at the Wansbeck Business Centre in Ashington, said: “We are really delighted to launch the Befriending Service which, although visits may take place at home, enables people to get out and about with confidence.
“Our team train and support volunteers who go on to support people with dementia to continue activities they enjoy.”
The new service was launched as the charity’s new office in Ashington, which will provide support services to people living with dementia their families and carers, was officially opened.
Jane added: “We’re delighted with our new premises in Ashington.”
