Ascent Homes is an arm of Arch – the Northumberland Development Company owned by Northumberland County Council.
Local county councillor Deirdre Campbell said: “The Plessey Green site is in a prominent location close to town amenities, schools and good transport links.
“This is a fantastic development which is creating job opportunities for local people, and housing where there is a need for good quality homes.
“When complete it will improve and bring new life to the area.
“Arch and Ascent Homes must be congratulated for the foresight to develop the site, and also for their plans to improve local roads and infrastructure.
“They have a mandate to utilise local Architects, consultants and tradesmen, so this investment in housing has a direct benefit to our local economy.”
