A nautical charity is floating on cloud nine after receiving a new boat, thanks to a £15,000 donation from the Freemasons of Northumberland.

The Maritime Volunteer Service (MVS), which operates regionally from Berwick to Hartlepool, received its new rigid inflatable vessel, called Northumberland Freemason, at the NE1 Pontoon on Newcastle’s Quayside.

It will help the charity to train its members and assist the community.

Members of the Freemasons came to watch the naming ceremony, which saw Provincial Grand Master of Northumberland Ian Craigs christening the vessel with a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale.
