A NEW crèche with a difference has been opened for shoppers to leave their sports-mad partners.
Players from Newcastle Falcons were on hand to officially open the new ‘men’s crèche’ at Manor Walks Shopping Centre in Cramlington.
Instead of being stocked with toys, the area housed in the state-of-the-art digital unit Venue will be where men can get some respite from shopping and tune in to the sporting channels.
Men and women alike will be given the chance to watch this year’s big sporting events on a large-screen TV whilst relaxing on plush leather sofas and beanbags.
As well as reading the daily newspapers and magazines, they can also play air-hockey, PlayStation3 games, pool and even get involved in their own sporting competitions in a Halford’s simulator bike ride.
Tea, coffee and soft drinks will also be available and on the odd occasion a professional masseur may even offer a relaxing head and shoulder massage.
It is a trial scheme but the centre’s general manager Bruno Coppola thinks it is sure to be a success.
He said: “During this important year of sport, we wanted to give something back to the community and make it easy for them to watch the big games whilst carrying on with daily life, so we came up with the idea of a men’s crèche in the centre.
“The crèche offers a compromise for families as men can come along to Manor Walks with their partner without having to miss out on the sport and the ladies can get their shopping done in peace.
“Of course, it’s not just a male only zone; we welcome anyone to use the crèche – women and children included.
“We’re expecting it to be a huge success.”
