Comrades B 7 Bedlington Station 5

The first of three narrow 7-5 victories in this week’s Super League does not paint a full picture of the match. Station raced into a 4-0 lead before Steven Moussa-Foggett got the home team’s first point. It was the impetus the Comrades needed and they took the second set of singles 5-0 to lead 6-4. An eight-ball clearance from Andrew Robertson and Ayton Stewart pulled back another point for Station. In the final frame Kevin McGarry and Ray Irving completed another eight-ball clearance to seal the win. With no players winning thre out of three, the match honours were shared between a number of players who recorded two wins including McGarry, Irving, Moussa-Foggett, Robertson and Ayton Senna, who showed tremendous sportsmanship by calling a foul against himself and over ruling the referee. Comrades B are second on 51 points and trail leaders Irish A by six, but Irish A have a game in hand and they play each other next week. Bedlington Station are fourth on 44 points.

Seahorse A 5 Wharton Arms 7

Wharton Arms finally recorded their first win of their Super League campaign with a narrow 7-5 win at Seahorse A. The games were close all night but with Wharton captain Christopher Stone plus teammates Freddy Chambers and David Young all getting a brace of points each to help the away team secure victory, only a hat-trick of wins from Wharton’s Gav Stewart stopped them from all sharing the man of the match honours. Wharton Arms are seventh on 35 points, whilst Seahorse A are a place higher with 36 points.

Sports D 5 Seahorse B 7

The final 7-5 result in this week’s Super League saw another comeback as Sports D rallied from 6-2 down only to narrowly miss out on the draw. A hat-trick of wins each from Seahorse B’s Mark Lillico and Ray Erridge were the top players on the night, but a break and dish from Mark Lillico just edged the man of the match honours. Sports D’s star player was Sean Craddock with two from three. Sports D are eighth on 33 points and are still looking for their first win of the season, whilst Seahorse B are third on 44 points due to a better win total over Station.

Sun Inn 8 Comrades A 4

Another team recording their first win of the campaign was Sun Inn with the biggest win in this week’s top flight fixtures. An 8-4 home victory over Comrades A did not see them move position as they remain tenth on 26 points, but have a game in hand over all the teams around them. Comrades A are ninth on 32 points. Dean Reay with three from three was the man of the match, but teammates Scott Jackson and Kevin Little helped secure the victory with two from three each. For the second time this week a BVPA player overruled the referee by calling a foul on themselves, with Comrades’ Bob Foggett showing the sportsmanship.

Premier League

Breakers C 3 Breakers B

Breakers B ended their win less drought last week and have now recorded their second victory in a row with a big 9-3 derby win against Breakers C. The B team are now eighth on 31 points, whilst the C team are a place higher in seventh with 37 points. The C team did not take their opportunities on the night which proved costly as they gift wrapped some clearances up for the B team.

Breakers D 8 Breakers E 4

Adam Straker was the man of the man with three from three for the D team in a match full of close games. Although the E team will be disappointed not to have taken more points from the match with their star player James Sayers taking two from three. Breakers D’s fifth win of the season keeps them third on 47 points, but with a game in hand on the top two they are still in the mix. Breakers E team are ninth on 28 points.

Newsham Side Club 3 Old Percy 9

The Premier League leaders were deservedly 8-1 down at one point and had to win at least two of the last three frames to give the scoreline some respectability. Michael Storrar was the home team’s star man with three from three. The away team’s captain Paul Dodds led the way with three from three, whilst teammates Kevin Sams, Connor Hickson and Vince Palmer were all two from three. Despite their first reverse of the season, Side Club remain top of the Premier League with 58 points. Old Percy are second on 50 points.

Phoenix 5 South Beach 7

Phoenix just missed out on their first Premier League win, losing 7-5 against a strong South Beach team. With 25 points Phoenix are tenth whilst South Beach are fourth on 44 points. Jonathon Vincent was the man of the match with a hat-trick of wins whilst teammates Steven Campbell and Craig Dunwoodie each scored two from three.
