North east comedian to host gig in aid of refugees

A north east comedian has recruited his comedy pals to help refugees in a special fundraising gig today.

Hebburn comedian Jason Cook, will host the gala at The Stand comedy club in High Bridge, Newcastle today (Saturday, September 12).

The Medecins Sand Frontieres Charity Gala kicks off at 2pm and will feature performances from Jason, Steffen Peddie, who starred alongside Jason in his BBC sitcom Hebburn, Alfie Joey, Danny Mcloughlin, Jarrow comic Carl Hutchinson, David Trent and a special guest.

The event will raise funds for the organisation, also known as Doctors Without Borders, to help the thousands of people fleeing violence and persecution in their home countries and attempting the treacherous journey across the Mediterranean to reach Europe.

The charity has a team of six people providing post-rescue care on board a search and rescue vessel.
