Thousands of pounds was raised for charity during Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service’s open day.
The free event, at West Hartford Community Fire Station, gave people a behind the scenes look at the latest fire and rescue equipment, offer a driving simulator challenge, drill displays by the Young Firefighters Association and a host of fairground attractions and food and drink stalls.
Record crowds turned out and in total around £2,500 was raised for The Firefighters’ Charity and the Young Firefighters Association.
Chief fire officer Alex Bennett said: “There was a fantastic turnout and it was great to be able to open our doors to the local community and demonstrate the work of the emergency services.
“Although the event was free the public very generously donated thousands towards two good causes.”
