Good luck, News Post Leader!
As the News Post Leader enters a new, exciting chapter in its long history, we have been overwhelmed by messages of support.
All sections of our communities have been sending their good-luck letters, from sport and politics to business and health. We are truly grateful for the backing and hope we can do you all proud with our bigger, bolder, new-look New Post Leader.
Your favourite local newspaper is being reborn from Friday, April 30 – a stronger voice for the community we have been proud to serve since 1874. The paper will no longer be delivered free but will be widely available to buy for just £1.
Here are some of the good-luck messages:
Blyth Spartans AFC Chairman Tony Platten: "The News Post Leader has long been the best known local newspaper in south-east Northumberland, with most readers simply calling it the Leader. The Leader has always been a great supporter of all amateur sport in the region, with a particular emphasis on non-league football. As the chairman of Blyth Spartans, I have had the privilege of being involved in a number of FA Cup runs, although it has to be said none as significant as the famous 1977/78 fifth round game against Wrexham. Whenever there is a whiff of FA Cup glory, the Leader always pulls out the stops. It is the most consistent weekly coverage of league matches that benefits the club and its supporters. In these changing times for print media, we wish all involved at the Leader the very best of fortune as it implements its changes and I look forward to reading it for many years to come."
Peter Rolton, Britishvolt Chairman: “I have been thoroughly impressed by the News Post Leader and the way it represents local communities through excellent news coverage. You can tell the paper, and its editorial staff, genuinely care about the people of the North East. We wish the NPL all the best as it progresses to a paid-for publication, a clear indication of the quality it offers.”
Tom Chaplin, PR & Comms Manager, Port of Blyth: “Having worked with colleagues at the News Post Leader over many years as they have covered lots of exciting stories from the port, we'd like to wish the team at the paper the best of luck as they transition into a new era. The people of Blyth rely on the paper for regular, good quality news and information. Long may that continue!”
Ian Levy, Blyth Valley MP: “The News Post Leader is an institution in south-east Northumberland and has been for such a long time. Since I was elected in December 2019 it has provided me with a great opportunity to regularly communicate with constituents. It is an excellent local publication full of the latest news for Blyth Valley and surrounding areas. I wish the Leader every success and will be buying a copy every week.”
Ian Lavery, Wansbeck MP: "Good luck to the News Post Leader and all those who work there as the paper takes this next step into their future. The paper has always been a valuable source of local news keeping the public informed here in south-east Northumberland and I wish them all the best going forward."
