An entrepreneurial duo are hoping to be on the road to success after launching a new repair and upgrade centre.

Friends Matthew Allan, 21, and Jason Edington, 22, have set up EA Leisure in Bedlington following years of experience learning the intricacies of maintaining, servicing and updating caravans.

After deciding the time was right to strike out on their own, they worked with TEDCO Business Support to apply for a Virgin StartUp loan to help fund new premises and equipment.

Matthew said: “As this is a fairly specialised area of vehicle maintenance, our goal was to learn everything we possibly could, with a view to one day being able to set up our own business.

“Our everyday work is servicing and repair, and any vehicle of this type needs to be serviced at least once a year to ensure it remains roadworthy.”

He added: “Aside from the maintenance areas, we also offer upgrades and new additions to vehicles, which has proven particularly popular with customers.

“This can be something as simple as upgrading or modernising kitchen facilities in a VW van, or putting the ideas and inspiration of our customers to good use with more personalised upgrades that reflect how they wish to use the vehicles – no matter how unique.”

The popularity of owning a caravan or a motorhome has never been greater and the pair are currently busy with a raft of commissions and maintenance work following a number of referrals.

EA Leisure was supported by business advisor Bill Hartshorne at TEDCO Business Support to help turn the dream from fledgling idea to fully trading business.

Jason said: “Working with Bill turned out to be a real turning point for getting the business ready to launch by applying for, and successfully receiving, the funds required to get EA Leisure moving.

“Virgin StartUp helps new ventures get access to the capital they need with a low cost, government-backed business loan, and it was an essential part of our start-up journey.”

Bill Hartshorne said: “EA Leisure is just the type of business we look to support, set up by two skilled people who have taken the time to learn their trade and build up a customer base before setting up their own venture with detailed knowledge of the sector they’re operating in.

“It’s been a pleasure working with Matthew and Jason on this start-up journey and I hope to continue our working relationship as they grow the business and eventually move into the larger premises they desire.

“I wish them the very best of luck in the future.”
