School staff from Bedlington have been rubbing shoulders with royalty in an awards celebration.

Bedlingtonshire Community High School headteacher Stephen Griffiths and parent liaison contact Andrew Allman were invited to Buckingham Palace to mark the diamond anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

The school has allowed the scheme to run in school, offering pupils the chance to complete bronze, silver and gold awards.

The celebration was attended by the Duke of Edinburgh, as well as the Earl and Countess of Wessex, who chatted to the staff about the awards.
