A parade and service was held at a Bedlington church to commemorate the outbreak of the First World War.

On Sunday, St Cuthbert’s Church, in conjunction with the Tyneside Scottish Association and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, held a parade and service to commemorate the start of war and the formation of the Tyneside Scottish battalions of the Northumberland Fusiliers.

The event started with a parade of veterans and cadets led by the pipes and drums of the Tyneside Scottish Association, who marched from the council offices in Front Street to St Cuthbert’s, where the standards were presented to the altar, before the service was led by the Rev Derry Twomey and assisted by Rev Geoffrey Driver.
