A special celebration took place to mark a couple’s 70th wedding anniversary.
Percy and Edith Capstaff were joined by family and friends, along with residents and staff at HC One’s Holywell Dene Care Home in Whitley Bay, to mark the occasion.
The childhood sweethearts met at a local youth club when Percy was 14 and Edith was 15.
After marrying in 1946, they lived together in a bungalow in Seaton Delaval until Edith moved into Holywell Dene care home.
Percy still lives in the same bungalow and visits Edith at the care home every day.
The home’s catering staff made a wonderful anniversary cake to celebrate the event, which Edith and Percy cut to much applause.
There was plenty of music and entertainment.
Gemma Stewart, care home manager, said: “Hosting Edith and Percy’s 70th wedding anniversary party has been an absolute privilege.
“Everyone who attended had a wonderful time and it’s delightful to see their love still as strong after 70 years.”
