Patients are given free festive cheer

Patients, visitors and staff at hospitals in Northumberland are being treated to festive songs to help spread the festive cheer this Christmas.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in Northumberland and North Tyneside isholding a series of Christmas events at its hospitals.

Schools and community groups are coming to wards and hospital entrances – including Wansbeck GeneralHospital – to sing carols and festive songs to entertain patients, visitors and staff.

The events, organised by the trust’s Bright charity in partnership with the chaplaincy service, include Preston Grange Primary School at North Tyneside General Hospital, Ashington Salvation Army Songsters at Wansbeck General Hospital, Prudhoe West First School at Hexham General Hospital, as well as events at community hospitals.

Rev Kathy Jones, who oversees the trust’s chaplaincy service, said: “Being in hospital at this time of year can be difficult for patients of all ages so the aim of our programme of events is to spread some festive cheer on our wards.

“Our patients really enjoy the singing and it’s lovely to see the smiles on their faces.”
