An event in Bedlington next week is giving people the opportunity to push themselves physically and raise money for Age UK Northumberland at the same time.
Pedalling for a Purpose will take place on Saturday, March 24, at Paramount Health and Fitness, Glebe Road, between 8am and 8pm.
It is hoping to sign up a minimum of 36 people to take on the challenge. Each person has an option to pay a flat entry fee of £30 per person or collect sponsors with a minimum suggestion of £30.
Participants will be split into teams and throughout the day, each team will take part in various exercise sessions – including a lot of time of the indoor spinning bikes.
This will be the first event that Paramount has organised since James Scott took over the business.
Sponsorship is being provided by JD Joinery and Building Services in Cramlington and Morrisons in Bedlington has offered to supply water and snacks, along with making up a hamper for the raffle.
An Age UK spokesman said: “We are thrilled that the team at Paramount has chosen Age UK Northumberland as its charity of the year.
“All of the money raised from the activity will help to fund the development of our Friendship Line, which we will launch later this year.
“Research suggests that loneliness is a real problem for older people in the area.
“Northumberland is a large county and the development of a Friendship Line will mean that we can begin to reach older people in the more isolated areas and decrease not just loneliness, but also all of the other health problems that are associated with it.”
You do not need to be a member of Paramount to register for this event. For more information, call 01670 823223 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
After the event, those involved and others will be welcome to join the team at The Red Lion Wetherspoon pub in Bedlington – where a raffle will be taking place to raise even more funds.
Local businesses willing to donate a prize for it can call or email Paramount to make arrangements.
