A moving ceremony took place in Bedlington as part of Armed Forces Day last month.

Veterans were joined by members of the public and local dignitaries in paying their respects to the Armed Forces at the ceremony held at the town’s War Memorial.

And the ceremony closed with a moving Last Post followed by the Reveille, played by Brian Storey from Bedlington Salvation Army.

Afterwards, attendees were invited to a buffet reception held at Bedlington Community Centre, where veterans were entertained with a selection of songs from yesteryear.

The event organiser, Syd Graham, who is the Chair of the local Royal Air Force Association, was delighted with the ceremony – and said plans were being considered to make it an annual event in the town.

Syd said: “I was really pleased to see so many veterans attending the ceremony and with the atmosphere which surrounded the whole event.”

He added: “We are looking forward to the celebration of Armed Forces Day as an annual event in Bedlington.”
