Care home residents in Cramlington complete fundraising cycling challenge

Care home residents have taken to cycling in a bid to keep fit and raise funds.

At Scarbrough Court in Cramlington residents took part in a two day bikeathon, collectively cycling 161 miles on an exercise machine.

The home says the idea encourages both residents and staff to keep active and £300 for wellbeing activities was raised.

Project U Fitness Gym in Blyth loaned Scarbrough Court an exercise machine for the challenge.

Scarbrough Court activities coordinator Stacey Hunter said: “It has been a great way for our residents to keep active in a safe, supported environment.

“Having the fundraising target has proven to be a great incentive for everyone to go that extra mile.”

David Weaver, who lives at the home, said: “Cycling has kept me fit for years and I have enjoyed the challenge.”

Scarbrough Court is run by the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution, which provides care to older Freemasons, their families, and the wider community at 17 homes in England and Wales.
