Cash boost for Cramlington group
A community centre hosting a range of groups has been awarded £1,000 to help fund improvements.
Cramlington in the Community, based in Farm Road, East Hartford, has been selected as Persimmon Homes North East’s Community Champion for the month and has donated £1,000 from its fund of the same name.
The charity is looking to improve the community facility to make it Covid compliant.
Ian Coates, who made the successful funding bid, said: “Cramlington in the Community is a registered charity serving the community of East Hartford and surrounding areas, we are going to build a community room and disability toilet/washroom.
"This is needed as the site is not Covid compliant and safe for use by our users.
“We are grateful for this support as it will go a long way to helping with the equipment we will need to purchase to complete the project.
"The build will be completed by volunteers who are all unpaid.”
Debbie Zaben, sales director for Persimmon Homes North East, added: “These are difficult times for everyone, and we are pleased to be able to support Cramlington in the Community.
“This is exactly what our Community Champions scheme is all about, supporting good causes to make a positive change in the areas we work and live.”
Each month the Newcastle-based builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across the region.
This also happens across Persimmon’s other 31 operating areas, meaning up to £64,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £768,000 a year.
