Blyth Star Enterprises has received £25,000 through Nationwide’s Community Grants Programme.

The Wanley Street branch will be fundraising and volunteering for the charity, which was established in 1987 by a group of families, carers and health care professionals to provide a holistic service to adults experiencing long term, complex mental ill health, learning differences and other disabilities.

The partnership comes three months after Nationwide awarded the grant of £25,000 to go towards appointing a Tenancy Support and Rehabilitation Manager at the charity.

Blyth Star This care helps ease a person’s transition back into the community after time spent in psychiatric hospitals, offering different types of accommodation with 13 intensively supported apartment homes available.

Richard Webster, manager of the Blyth branch, said: “Helping local communities is at the heart of what it means to be a building society.

"Thanks to our Community Grants programme, we are proud to get involved fundraising and volunteering as a team.

"It will be a challenge and lots of fun and we are proud to grant £25,000 for Blyth Star Enterprises who do so much for the local community.

"Many charities are struggling at this time, so we’re pleased that we’re able to help this very worthy cause here in Blyth.”

Jill Watkin, Philanthropy Manager for Blyth Star Enterprises, said: “This new appointment will enable those we support to move into their new homes, which is a first step on their road to recovery and living a happy and fulfilling life in their chosen community.

"This person will develop and coordinate local partnerships with charities, housing associations and other housing providers and deliver staff training and development within this specialist area.

"They will also provide advice and information on consumer rights and independent living.

“Our objectives are closely aligned with those of Nationwide Building Society in helping people to live and retain their own home and supporting them to thrive within their home environment.

“On behalf of our beneficiaries, staff and trustees, Blyth Star Enterprises would like to offer our very grateful thanks to Nationwide Building Society and the staff of the Blyth branch whom we are very much looking forward to working with in the coming year.”
