Council brings back garden competition for 2021
Green-fingered residents are being given a chance to showcase their work again.
Ashington Town Council is holding its popular gardens competition again this year.
There are six categories for entries – Large Garden; Small Garden; Disabled Person’s Garden; Senior Citizen’s Garden; Allotment Garden; Commercial Property & Public House.
Coun Mark Purvis, business chair of the council, said: “Following the success of the Ashington Gardens Competition in recent years Ashington Town Council is delighted to announce it will go ahead again this year in its traditional format, Covid-19 dependent.
"The competition has proved popular with residents of Ashington and helps to celebrate and recognise the excellent gardening work undertaken in our town.”
Ashington Town Clerk, Mike Slaughter, added: “Since the Town Council reintroduced the competition it has generated a real interest within the community to maintain and enhance the environment and we are hopeful that more residents will take part in 2021.”
Wansbeck Garden Centre & Café, based on North Seaton Industrial Estate, is again supporting the competition.
Closing date for entries is Friday, June 21. Judging will take place during July and a special ‘Awards Evening’ will be held in September (Covid-19 restrictions dependent) when the winners will be announced and presented with their trophies and prizes.
