Eddie nominated for prestigious award
A caregiver has been nominated for a national title in recognition of his outstanding services to the home care sector.
Eddie Stoker, from Cramlington, is one of only five finalists in the running for Home Instead Senior Care’s national ‘Caregiver of the Year’ award.
Eddie joined Home Instead only 18 months ago, and has already been singled out as a fantastic caregiver by an inspector from the Care Quality Commission, the care sector’s independent regulatory body.
While inspecting Home Instead South East Northumberland, the inspector remarked to Guy Kirk, one of the directors, “We need more Eddies!”
Eddie spent his first Christmas on the job supporting not one but two clients. A father, aged just 42, who was paralysed in a freak accident whilst on holiday desperately wanted to spend the day with his family.
Eddie even attended specialist training in the lead up to Christmas, in order to support the man to be with his wife and two boys.
The client has been able to re-establish some mobility and is almost walking again.
On the same day, he prepared a full Christmas dinner for a client who he knew would have otherwise received no visitors.
Guy, who put Eddie forward for the award, said: “Nobody could be more deserving of the caregiver of the year title than Eddie.
“He is a shining example. Preparing for his appraisal he wrote ‘Every client is different with their own needs, wishes and beliefs.
“My purpose is to provide privacy, care and support dignity, promote independence, be punctual, promote wellbeing, be trustworthy, build a relationship with every client, be kind and compassionate and always respect a client’s wishes’. For Eddie these are not just words, he embodies these values and he always manages to get the best out of his clients.”
