Some of the community groups to receive a funding boost from the Community Chest.

Organisations in Cramlington, Bedlington and Seaton Valley were among those to receive a grant from the Community Chest, run by Northumberland County Council, and presented with a certificate at a council meeting at Netherton Social Club.

The scheme awards grants of up to £5,000 to support community groups and organisations county-wide. Heather Johnson received the grant on behalf of Seghill Colliery Institute.

She said: “This latest round of funding has gone to help replace the asbestos roof which we had in the building.

“So now we have the whole building properly roofed, we have no leaks and it should be lovely and warm in the winter.”

Other community groups in attendance included; Darcey’s Dream, Bedlington Terriers Football Club and The Marshall Academy of Irish Dance Support Group.

Coun Nick Oliver, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services at Northumberland County Council, said: “The Community Chest Fund is a fantastic opportunity for local community groups and organisations to enhance their services which will ultimately benefit the local community.

“The scheme contributes to achieving our ambition for Northumberland, which is to support voluntary and community groups and organisations to deliver activities to maintain and create sustainable communities.”
