Litter pick planned in heart of Blyth
Volunteers are coming together for a litter pick in the heart of Blyth.
Blyth Community Volunteers (BCV) are teaming up with the Keel Row shopping centre in a big car park tidy from 10am to noon on Sunday, September 29.
The group, which was set up earlier this year, organises regular town centre litter picks and was delighted to have the opportunity to work with Northumberland Estates, owners of the Keel Row centre, and its management team.
They will be supported by a team from Northumberland County Council who will assist with a general tidy up of the surrounding area in the days before, including cutting back shrubs and undergrowth.
Claire Young, secretary of Blyth Community Volunteers, said: “All of our volunteers love Blyth and we want to make it an even better place to live. When we heard that the Keel Row car park needed attention we were very keen to help.
“Anyone with even half an hour to spare would be welcome to come along and help. All equipment will be provided. Just turn up at the Keel Row car park.”
Trevor Gyllenspetz, manager of the Keel Row shopping centre, added: “The car park is a major part of Blyth town centre and sets the tone for many visitors.
“We're delighted with the co operation we have had from Northumberland County Council, Blyth Town Council and Blyth Community Volunteers to get this areas tidied up and make it a much more attractive place for Keel Row shoppers.”
