Northumberland Freemasons are backing an event to aid NHS charities.

The first celebration of NHS, Social Care and Frontline Workers Day is on July 5 with Northumberland Freemasons getting behind a variety show at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House, in Newcastle.

Already confirmed on the bill is former X-Factor winner Joe McElderry with more big-name stars expected to be added in the coming weeks.

The event will be live streamed free of charge with any donations going to NHS charities.

As well as an online audience, it is hoped that the theatre will be filled with representatives from the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust, Northumbria Healthcare NHS, North East Ambulance Service, Great North Air Ambulance Service and Northumbria Blood Bikes.

Other key workers and their families will also be invited as a small token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

Ian Craigs, the head of Northumberland Freemasons, which covers Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle, was delighted to support the event.

He said: “The United Grand Lodge of England and ourselves here in Northumberland are pleased to be able to support this event as it gives us all a chance to say ‘thank you’ to everyone in the NHS and social care for looking after us in the most difficult of times.

“The show is a great way for people to enjoy themselves and at the same time raise much-needed funds for NHS related charities.

"We have all been through so much and this performance may be just what the doctor ordered.”
