Three have won £30,000 each while the fourth landed £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets after their postcode – NE25 0JJ – was drawn.

Ken Wilson, 72, and his wife Joan got the surprise of their life when they saw the Postcode Lottery team on their street as they had just arrived home from a holiday.

Joan said: “We had no idea anyone was coming because we’d been away so missed their call. I saw the neighbour getting her cheque and was so excited for her. I still didn’t realise they were coming here too.”

Ken added: “It’s just such a surprise. We’re just back from holiday but I think we’ll treat ourselves to another.”

Wendy Deale, 73, was the lucky £60,000 winner. Wendy, joined by her husband Nigel, said: “I’m going to buy my sister a new boiler, but after that I’ll need to think about it.

“I am a big believer in charity, so that’s why I signed up. I love animals and I know that lots of animal charities, like Cats Protection and PDSA are supported by playing.”

Barbra Shore, 67, was also delighted with her prize. She said: “The money’s going to come in handy. We’re a close family and like to share everything, so everyone will get something.”

One other neighbour also won a £30,000 cash prize. They were not available to receive their cheques in person, but the money will be paid directly into their bank account.

The prize is part of People’s Postcode Lottery’s September’s campaign, with a postcode being drawn every single day and all the players in it win £30,000 per ticket.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Danyl Johnson, presented the winners with their cheques.

He said: “I’ve had a fantastic day in Seaton Delaval, or as one of the winners called it, Seaton Delightful! I hope they all enjoy spending their winnings.”
