Planned roadworks for the North East

Highways England has a number of planned roadworks in the North East over the coming week.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. On Monday 20 February there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51. Then on Tuesday 21 February there will be a closure of the southbound entry and exit slip roads and the northbound entry slip road at Scotch Corner, as well as a northbound up and over closure at the Catterick Central interchange. All closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place.

A1 Blaydon Haugh Viaduct, junction 73 to junction 74, Newcastle upon Tyne

There is a 50mph limit in operation over Blaydon Haugh Viaduct due to the installation of temporary plates over defective viaduct joints. From Monday 20 to Sunday 26 February there will be a carriageway closure southbound between 8pm and 6am, with the northbound carriageway also being closed on Wednesday 22 February between midnight and 6am. All these closures will take place with a diversion in place.

A1 / A1M junction 64 to junction 67, Gateshead

There will be various lane and carriageway closures north and southbound for structural repairs, commencing on Wednesday 18 January until the end of February. On Saturday 18 February there will be a carriageway closure north and southbound between Junction 65 and 66. This will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until spring 2017 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. From Monday 20 to Thursday 23 February there will be a carriageway closure north and southbound between 8pm and 7am, and a daytime lane closure north and southbound between 7am and 8pm from Monday 20 to Friday 24 February. All carriageway closures will take place with diversions in place.

A1 Haggerston, Northumberland

There will be convoy working in place north and southbound to install new crossing areas. This will take place until the beginning of March between 8.30am and 4pm.

A1 Denwick to South Charlton, Northumberland

There will be a carriageway closure north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place from Monday 20 to Thursday 23 February between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place.

A19 Silverlink, North Tyneside

There will be a 24 hour 30mph speed restriction with narrow lanes for interchange improvement work. The eastbound A1058 Coast Road will be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm and again between 8pm and 6am just over the interchange. The closures are in place from Monday 20 February for five days/nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place.

A66 Long Newton, Stockton on Tees

There will be 24 hour traffic signals in operation on the slip road and interchange for construction work. This will take place until Friday 31 March.

A66 Surtees Bridge, Stockton on Tees

There will be a carriageway closure east and westbound for structural maintenance. From Monday 20 to Wednesday 22 February the eastbound carriageway will be closed, and from Thursday 23 to Monday 27 February the westbound carriageway will be closed. All closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with a diversion in place.

A66 Little Burdon Roundabout, County Durham

The circulatory will be closed on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 February for resurfacing work. This will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place.

A66 Hartforth, North Yorkshire

There will be traffic signals in place east and westbound for barrier maintenance. This will take place on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February between 8pm and 5.30am.
