A civil engineering firm has secured a £3million contract to support the construction of a biomass combined heat-and-power plant located in Cramlington.

The Owen Pugh Group, which is headquartered close to the eight-hectare site in Dudley, has been appointed by principal contractor Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC) to do the bulk earthworks for the new Cramlington Power Plant.

The work is expected to take 12 months to complete.

It will involve the construction of access roads, drainage, attenuation ponds and the installation of multiple services and ancillaries.

The plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2017.
