Two history students from the county have been chosen to represent their school at a First World War battlefields tour.
Bedlingtonshire Community High school pupils Heather Bolton and Elizabeth Aspinall secured their place on the tour after they both wrote some outstanding pieces of poetry on the First World War.
The four-day tour of Belgium and France will give the girls a chance to see the battlefields as well as listening to the experiences of those involved from historians.
Their poems were sent to be judged at St Cuthbert’s Church, where Heather’s poem was selected as the winner and Elizabeth’s was highly commended.
Assistant headteacher Jamie Bell said: “We are very proud of these students, and their work showcases the talent they undoubtedly have.
“Both girls are a credit to themselves, their families and the school.”
