Police are appealing for information after an attempted bag theft in Blyth.

Around 8.55am on Tuesday, a 57-year-old woman was walking between Railway Street and the leisure centre when she was approached from behind by a man on a bike who tried to snatch her handbag.

He was unable to grab it and cycled off in the direction of Newsham Road empty-handed. The woman was uninjured, but left shaken by the incident.

The man is described as being white, skinny and around 5ft 4ins tall. He had dark hair and a thin long face. He was wearing a blue hooded top and black trousers and was riding a BMX bike.

Inquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 267 09/06/15.
