Police name woman who died in car crash

Police have named the woman who died in car crash last week as they continue to appeal for witnesses.

Muriel Bartle, 62, of Seaton Sluice, had been travelling northbound on the A697 near Wooler when it was hit by a car travelling southbound.

Mrs Bartle was declared dead at the scene while the driver of the other vehicle, a 25-year-old woman, suffered a broken leg and was taken to Wansbeck General Hospital for treatment.

Police are continuing to investigate the fatal collision which happened at 9.46am on Friday, October 17.

The A697 near Wooler was closed for several hours in order for emergency services to deal with the collision and examine the scene.

Enquiries are being carried out to establish the cause of the collision.
